Project Overview
A new energy resource already in the ground
QIMC holds a 100% interest in mineral claims within the Cumberland Basin region of Nova Scotia. Scientific work has identified the area as prospective for naturally occurring hydrogen generated underground by geological processes.
Unlike manufactured hydrogen, natural hydrogen is not produced through an energy-intensive industrial process. QIMC’s work is focused on exploration, measurement and responsible evaluation of this emerging clean-energy resource.

Claim acquisition and geological review
QIMC secured its Cumberland Basin mineral claims and completed baseline geological review to identify priority structures.

Surface soil-gas sampling
Non-invasive field sampling across priority zones helped refine subsurface models and evaluate hydrogen migration pathways.
January 2026
Phase 1 drill program begins
QIMC commenced the first direct subsurface evaluation of the Cumberland Basin’s natural hydrogen potential using standard scientific drilling methods.
2026–2027
Results and next-phase planning
Phase 1 results are analyzed and publicly reported as available, with follow-up exploration planning based on technical results.
2027 onward

Potential infrastructure planning for industrial, clean-energy and strategic power applications, subject to exploration results, permitting and commercial studies.

Natural hydrogen exploration is fundamentally different from conventional oil and gas extraction. QIMC’s approach is designed to minimize surface disturbance and protect the land, water and communities where we work.

What is naturally occurring hydrogen?
Naturally occurring hydrogen, also called natural or geological hydrogen, is molecular hydrogen gas generated by geological processes underground. It can migrate through faults and fractures where it can be detected through scientific exploration methods. Will QIMC use fracking or other intensive techniques?
No. Hydraulic fracturing is not part of QIMC’s program. QIMC’s exploration work uses soil-gas sampling and standard scientific drilling methods, without hydraulic fracturing, production chemicals, explosives or water-intensive methods. What is the current status of the project?
QIMC commenced its Phase 1 drill program in the Cumberland Basin in January 2026, following surface soil-gas sampling completed in 2025. Results are analyzed and publicly reported as the program advances. How will local communities benefit?
