Au total, 452 \u00e9chantillons de gaz du sol ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9lev\u00e9s dans la zone du projet West Advocate. Les r\u00e9sultats obtenus sur plusieurs saisons d\u00e9montrent la persistance constante des anomalies d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne dans trois zones cibles \u00e9largies et pr\u00eates \u00e0 \u00eatre for\u00e9es, le long du corridor structural West Advocate en Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse, notamment \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 du chemin Eatonville. Les donn\u00e9es recueillies dans diff\u00e9rentes conditions saisonni\u00e8res et atmosph\u00e9riques confirment que ces anomalies sont spatialement coh\u00e9rentes et contr\u00f4l\u00e9es par la structure g\u00e9ologique, ce qui r\u00e9duit consid\u00e9rablement les risques li\u00e9s \u00e0 la d\u00e9finition des cibles et permet de faire progresser le projet vers un forage prioritaire.<\/p>\n<p>John Karagiannidis, pr\u00e9sident-directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de QIMC, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9\u00a0:<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201d Ces r\u00e9sultats marquent un tournant d\u00e9cisif pour le projet West Advocate. Ce travail r\u00e9duit consid\u00e9rablement les risques du projet et positionne West Advocate comme un actif fondamental du portefeuille d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne naturel de QIMC. \u2019<\/i><\/p>\n<p>S\u2019appuyant sur cette validation pluriannuelle, le dernier programme de QIMC a port\u00e9 sur l\u2019augmentation de la densit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9chantillonnage dans les zones prioritaires pr\u00e9alablement identifi\u00e9es afin d\u2019affiner et de consolider la d\u00e9finition des cibles pr\u00eates \u00e0 \u00eatre for\u00e9es. Malgr\u00e9 les influences saisonni\u00e8res et atmosph\u00e9riques bien connues sur les mesures de gaz du sol, l\u2019approche analytique int\u00e9gr\u00e9e de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 confirme que les anomalies d\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne persistent au fil des p\u00e9riodes d\u2019\u00e9tude et restent align\u00e9es sur les contr\u00f4les structuraux cartographi\u00e9s. Ce r\u00e9sultat fournit un cadre robuste et s\u00e9curis\u00e9 pour la priorisation des zones cibles dans la r\u00e9gion d\u2019Advocate.<\/p>\n<p>Ensemble, la confirmation de la persistance sur plusieurs saisons et la consolidation de trois zones cibles \u00e9largies pr\u00eates \u00e0 \u00eatre for\u00e9es r\u00e9duisent consid\u00e9rablement le risque g\u00e9ologique et positionnent West Advocate comme une plateforme de d\u00e9veloppement d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne naturel \u00e9volutive et reproductible qui peut \u00eatre syst\u00e9matiquement reproduite sur les plus de 3773 concessions de QIMC en Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse et sur ses vastes propri\u00e9t\u00e9s fonci\u00e8res au Minnesota et dans la r\u00e9gion Qu\u00e9bec-Ontario, plut\u00f4t que comme un projet d&#039;exploration \u00e0 cible unique.<\/p>\n<p><b>Qu\u2019est-ce qu\u2019une \u201d zone cible \u201d d\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne naturel ?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Chaque zone cible d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne naturel d\u00e9finie \u00e0 West Advocate repr\u00e9sente une zone structurellement coh\u00e9rente d\u00e9finie par la convergence de multiples indicateurs g\u00e9ologiques et g\u00e9ochimiques ind\u00e9pendants, notamment\u00a0:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Anomalies persistantes d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne (H\u2082) observ\u00e9es sur plusieurs saisons<\/li>\n<li>R\u00e9ponses concomitantes du radon et du thoron indiquant des voies de migration de gaz provenant de sources profondes<\/li>\n<li>Alignement structural avec les failles cartographi\u00e9es et les couloirs de fracture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ces zones cibles constituent les \u00e9l\u00e9ments fondamentaux de la strat\u00e9gie d&#039;exploration et de d\u00e9veloppement de QIMC, permettant \u00e0 la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de faire progresser syst\u00e9matiquement de multiples opportunit\u00e9s pr\u00eates \u00e0 \u00eatre for\u00e9es au sein d&#039;un seul corridor d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne, plut\u00f4t que de s&#039;appuyer sur un seul r\u00e9sultat d&#039;exploration binaire.<\/p>\n<p><b>Pourquoi utilise-t-on la normalisation par score Z\u00a0?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>La variabilit\u00e9 saisonni\u00e8re et les conditions atmosph\u00e9riques, telles que la temp\u00e9rature et la pression atmosph\u00e9rique, constituent des difficult\u00e9s bien connues en mati\u00e8re d&#039;exploration des gaz du sol et peuvent masquer les v\u00e9ritables signaux g\u00e9ologiques si les concentrations absolues de gaz sont consid\u00e9r\u00e9es isol\u00e9ment. Pour pallier ce probl\u00e8me, QIMC et INRS ont appliqu\u00e9 une normalisation par score Z ind\u00e9pendamment \u00e0 chaque jeu de donn\u00e9es sur les gaz du sol.<\/p>\n<p>En termes simples, la normalisation par score Z mesure l&#039;\u00e9cart de chaque mesure d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne par rapport \u00e0 son niveau de fond local, plut\u00f4t que de se baser uniquement sur les valeurs de concentration absolue. Cette approche \u00e9limine les biais saisonniers et atmosph\u00e9riques et permet une comparaison directe et objective entre les diff\u00e9rentes p\u00e9riodes d&#039;\u00e9tude.<\/p>\n<p>L&#039;int\u00e9gration de donn\u00e9es normalis\u00e9es permet d&#039;interpr\u00e9ter les anomalies d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne persistantes d&#039;une saison \u00e0 l&#039;autre comme des caract\u00e9ristiques g\u00e9ologiques robustes, contr\u00f4l\u00e9es par la structure, plut\u00f4t que comme des effets environnementaux transitoires. Cette approche r\u00e9duit consid\u00e9rablement les risques li\u00e9s \u00e0 la d\u00e9finition des cibles et facilite l&#039;identification de zones cibles d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne pr\u00eates \u00e0 \u00eatre for\u00e9es, comme d\u00e9taill\u00e9 dans l&#039;interpr\u00e9tation technique ci-dessous.<\/p>\n<p>Les travaux ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9s par le QIMC en collaboration avec l&#039;Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) sous la direction scientifique du Prof. Marc Richer-LaFl\u00e8che, assurant ainsi la supervision scientifique acad\u00e9mique et la rigueur m\u00e9thodologique.<\/p>\n<p>Le professeur Marc Richer-LaFl\u00e8che a comment\u00e9 :<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201d La deuxi\u00e8me campagne de mesures des gaz du sol, men\u00e9e \u00e0 l&#039;automne et au d\u00e9but de l&#039;hiver 2025, confirme la persistance des anomalies d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne initialement identifi\u00e9es lors de la campagne estivale, malgr\u00e9 des conditions saisonni\u00e8res et atmosph\u00e9riques diff\u00e9rentes. Apr\u00e8s normalisation des donn\u00e9es pour tenir compte des effets de la temp\u00e9rature et de la pression, les r\u00e9sultats d\u00e9limitent clairement trois zones pr\u00e9sentant des anomalies d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne importantes \u00e0 West Advocate. La persistance et la coh\u00e9rence spatiale de ces anomalies appuient fortement l&#039;hypoth\u00e8se d&#039;un syst\u00e8me g\u00e9ologique d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne contr\u00f4l\u00e9 par la structure g\u00e9ologique. \u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Interpr\u00e9tation technique int\u00e9gr\u00e9e (Figures 1-3)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Selon l&#039;analyse scientifique du QIMC r\u00e9alis\u00e9e en collaboration avec l&#039;INRS, les donn\u00e9es sur les gaz du sol collect\u00e9es lors des campagnes d&#039;\u00e9chantillonnage g\u00e9ologique de juillet (\u00e9t\u00e9) et d&#039;octobre (automne) 2025 ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9valu\u00e9es ind\u00e9pendamment pour tenir compte des diff\u00e9rences saisonni\u00e8res dans les conditions atmosph\u00e9riques et environnementales connues pour influencer les concentrations de gaz du sol.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9chantillonnage estival a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 dans des conditions plus chaudes, avec des valeurs m\u00e9dianes de temp\u00e9rature, de pression atmosph\u00e9rique et d\u2019humidit\u00e9 relative de 26 \u00b0C, 1021,6 hPa et 57,31 TP3T, respectivement. L\u2019\u00e9chantillonnage automnal a \u00e9t\u00e9 effectu\u00e9 dans des conditions plus fra\u00eeches, avec des valeurs m\u00e9dianes de 14,2 \u00b0C, 1025,4 hPa et 53,21 TP3T, respectivement. Les variations de temp\u00e9rature et de pression atmosph\u00e9rique sont des facteurs reconnus du pompage barom\u00e9trique, un processus susceptible de r\u00e9duire les concentrations de gaz du sol mesur\u00e9es lors des p\u00e9riodes plus froides et des r\u00e9gimes de pression plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s. Des travaux ant\u00e9rieurs d\u2019Avenda\u00f1o et al. (2021) ont identifi\u00e9 la r\u00e9gion c\u00f4ti\u00e8re atlantique canadienne et le golfe du Saint-Laurent comme des zones pr\u00e9sentant un potentiel \u00e9lev\u00e9 d\u2019efficacit\u00e9 du pompage barom\u00e9trique.<\/p>\n<p>Comme illustr\u00e9 \u00e0 la figure 1, la comparaison directe des concentrations brutes d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne entre les deux p\u00e9riodes d&#039;\u00e9chantillonnage met en \u00e9vidence un d\u00e9calage saisonnier attendu. Les concentrations m\u00e9dianes d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne mesur\u00e9es lors de la campagne d&#039;\u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9taient de 265 ppm(v), contre 135 ppm(v) lors de la campagne d&#039;automne. Afin de corriger ce biais saisonnier, les seuils de fond d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne ont \u00e9t\u00e9 estim\u00e9s ind\u00e9pendamment pour chaque s\u00e9rie de donn\u00e9es. La limite sup\u00e9rieure de fond pour l&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9termin\u00e9e \u00e0 &lt; 318 ppm(v) pour les \u00e9chantillons d&#039;\u00e9t\u00e9 et \u00e0 &lt; 160 ppm(v) pour les \u00e9chantillons d&#039;automne, comme indiqu\u00e9 \u00e0 la figure 2.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/fr\/\"https:><img class=\"\\\"releaseimage\\\"\" src=\"\\\"https:><\/a><\/p>\n<p><i>Figure 1. L&#039;ensemble de donn\u00e9es de scores Z compil\u00e9, pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 sur la figure 3, int\u00e8gre les anomalies d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne normalis\u00e9es des deux p\u00e9riodes d&#039;\u00e9chantillonnage et d\u00e9limite trois secteurs d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne spatialement coh\u00e9rents et fortement anormaux (zones I, II et III). Ces anomalies persistent d&#039;une p\u00e9riode d&#039;\u00e9tude \u00e0 l&#039;autre, ce qui indique un syst\u00e8me d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne robuste, contr\u00f4l\u00e9 par la structure g\u00e9ologique.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/fr\/\"https:><img class=\"\\\"releaseimage\\\"\" src=\"\\\"https:><\/a><\/p>\n<p><i>Figure 3.
